The city of Phoenix plans to build affordable housing on a city-owned property at the northwest of 35th Avenue and McDowell Road.
The Phoenix Planning Commission on Thursday night unanimously approved a rezone for the 1.4-acre site from a mixed of commercial zoning to Walkable Urban Code zoning. City Council will need to vote for final approval.
The city’s Housing Phoenix Plan lists redeveloping city land for affordable housing as one strategy to accomplish the city’s goal of creating or preserving 50,000 homes between 2020 and 2030, Phoenix Planner Chase Hales told the commission on Thursday.
