Phoenix plans $24.4M for public art over five years, but adds fewer new projects

The city of Phoenix plans to spend $24.4 million on public art during the next five years under a plan approved by city council last week.

“As public art reflects and uplifts our communities, it tells a story of our neighborhoods, honors our cultures and invites people to take pride in Phoenix,” said Councilmember Laura Pastor during the June 18 council meeting.

The city is spending much less on new projects this year — $200,000 on two new projects versus $7.6 million on nine new projects added last year. Phoenix is budgeting $150,000 new dollars for maintenance, refurbishments and restorations of existing public art projects.
