Phoenix plans $1.6M for downtown security cameras

City plans installation before 2023 Super Bowl

The city of Phoenix plans to spend $1.6 million to security cameras downtown, including replacing many out-of-date cameras.

Phoenix Police says the cameras will deter and detect crime as well as catch suspected criminals after the fact. They also will be used for crowd and traffic control for large events downtown, including events related to the Super Bowl in February 2023 and the NCAA men’s basketball Final Four in Spring 2024.

Both sporting events will be held in Glendale’s State Farm Stadium, but many game-related are held in downtown Phoenix.
