Phoenix planning changes to PD in response to DOJ report

Residents speak both critically and in support of police at council meeting

Phoenix City Manager Jeff Barton last week released his first statement on the U.S. Department of Justice’s report of its investigation of Phoenix Police since the day the report was published on June 13.

In the city’s initial statement the day the DOJ’s report was released alleging civil rights violations committed by Phoenix Police, Barton and other city leaders said they were taking the report seriously and would be reviewing it with an open mind.

Barton’s statement last week said that review is underway, and actions are being planned based on the DOJ’s findings.
