The suspect sustained life-threatening injuries from the shot. As of Tuesday night’s update from Phoenix police, there is no update on his condition. Identities have not been released.

Officers responded to a subject with a gun call at about 3:32 p.m. on Tuesday in the area of 33rd Avenue and Campo Bello Drive. Details on the 911 call said a man was waving a gun while a second person was nearby.

When officers got to the area, they saw the two suspects matching the description given on the call, sitting on a short landscape wall. As the patrol car stopped, the passenger officer got out as one of the suspects began running toward him holding a firearm, according to police. The officer then shot the suspect.

The suspect suffered a gunshot wound and was taken to the hospital by the Phoenix Fire Department with life-threatening-injuries. The second suspect was detained by officers and found to be in possession of a firearm. The second firearm was recovered on scene.

Detectives responded to the scene and took over the investigation. Further details about this incident are still under investigation.
