A 35-year-old man faces felony charges as the suspect in a Tuesday shooting when police said he fired a handgun at officers from a backyard window at an apartment.
After his release from a hospital, detectives booked Edward Brown into Maricopa County Jail on Feb. 15 on several felony charges stemming from the officer-involved shooting that happened about 6:45 a.m. Feb. 13, police said.
Brown was shot by a Phoenix officer after authorities said the suspect fired a handgun at officers near 19th Avenue and Berridge Lane.
Officers responded to a call Feb. 13 that reported a man was holding a woman against her will at gunpoint at the apartment. Police surrounded the apartment and began to call out to those inside, according to a release.
“While officers were giving commands, a man inside the apartment fired a handgun at officers from the backyard window. An officer returned fire,” the release stated.
“The man was then seen leaving the apartment and jumping over a block wall into the alley. Officers gave commands as the man ran down the alley. It was at this time a different officer fired his duty weapon, stopping the man’s actions.”
Police said detectives recovered a handgun at the scene. The suspect was taken to a hospital.
