Phoenix Police make arrest in 2010 homicide

Phoenix Police announced late Tuesday they made an arrest in connection with homicide that took place more than 15 years ago.

Police said 35-year-old Edgar Mendoza confessed to the homicide during an interview conducted on Sept. 29 after he was brought for questioning, according to a Phoenix Police release.

Walter Zimmer was found dead at a bus stop near 51st Avenue and West Thomas Road on Sept. 5, 2010. Detectives were unable to locate witnesses or video surveillance, but collected physical eveidence from the scene. The crime lab was able to develop a DNA profile of an unidentified male from the evidence obtained, according to the release.

Phoenix Police announced late Tuesday they made an arrest in connection with homicide that took place more than 15 years ago.

Police said 35-year-old Edgar Mendoza confessed to the homicide during an interview conducted on Sept. 29 after he was brought for questioning, according to a Phoenix Police release.

The case was assigned to cold case detectives, who with the help of the Phoenix crime lab, received a hit that matched the DNA profile to Mendoza, the release said.
