Phoenix paves 100th mile of cool pavement, hopes to be an example for cities worldwide

The city of Phoenix has paved 100 miles of cool pavement and is showing it off to the world.

Phoenix invited mayors from around the globe last week to the paving of the 100th mile of cool pavement, the largest global cool pavement program.

Cool pavement is a light gray coating applied to asphalt shown to reduce surface temperatures and extend the life of streets. Because cool pavement is light, it reflects more heat than black asphalt.
