Phoenix Parks struggles to hire as competition increases

Like many employers across the Valley and nation, the city of Phoenix is struggling to staff many positions in its Parks and Recreation Department, particularly seasonal positions typically staffed by teenagers.

The city does not have enough lifeguards to staff even half its pools this summer and has had to wait list children for its afterschool program.

“We know that this is a challenge that every industry is going through,” said Vice Mayor Laura Pastor.
