Phoenix Parks Department pays $11.9M for state land near Sandra Day O'Connor High School

The Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department recently bought nearly 160 acres of state trust land north of Sandra Day O’Connor High School for $11.9 million.

The 158.7-acre parcel, north of the northwest corner of 35th Avenue and Happy Valley Road, is nearly entirely mountain land in the Deem Hills area.

The Phoenix Parks system already owns land to the north and west that are part of the Deem Hills Recreation Area. Deputy Parks Director Jarod Rogers indicated to the Phoenix Sonoran Preserve and Mountain Parks/Preserve Committee that the land purchased on Nov. 19 be used to expand that recreation area.
