City of Phoenix staff say the city should be two years ahead of its goal of 200 electric fleet vehicles by 2030.
Councilwoman Yassamin Ansari, who led Phoenix’s Electric Vehicle Ad Hoc Committee, said the city shouldn’t stop there. She hopes the city never buys a gas-powered light-duty vehicle — sedans, SUVs and pickup trucks — again. Ansari said she wants, except for rare circumstances, every light-duty vehicle the city replaces to be replaced with an electric or hybrid vehicle.
“There’s no reason why Phoenix shouldn’t be the leader in Arizona but also nationwide in terms of having the most EVs in our fleet and making that transition as fast as possible,” Ansari said during a Community and Cultural Investment Subcommittee meeting last Wednesday, Oct. 5.
