Phoenix officers shoot man suspected of firing gun at police helicopter

A man was injured after being shot Sunday by police after authorities said he fired a gun at a  department  helicopter that was assisting officers in locating the suspect.

Officers responded to the area of 38th Street and Thomas Road about 1:55 a.m. March 22 for calls of shots being fired. They arrived and heard gunshots before circulating in the area to see where they were coming from, according to a release.

The Phoenix Police Air Unit also responded and began searching the area. The pilot and observer saw a man on the back patio of an apartment.
