A 29-year-old man is dead after an officer-involved shooting occurred Tuesday in the 300 block of East Clarendon Avenue, Phoenix police said.

Mountain View Precinct officers responded to a home burglary call about 11:20 a.m. Nov. 5  regarding a man who was trying to jump over the caller's fence from the alley.

The first officers to arrive found the man entered the alley from the west, and three other officers arrived, entering the alley from the east, police said.

The man had his left hand concealed, according to police, and police began giving him commands.

“The man did not comply with the commands and removed a firearm from his person and pointed it in the direction of the officers. Two officers responded to the threat by firing their duty weapons, striking the man and ending the threat, while one officer attempted to deploy his 40mm less lethal launcher, which malfunctioned,” authorities stated in a release.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and police said a “replica firearm” was found at the suspect’s feet.
