Phoenix police officers on Sunday shot and killed a man who they said was running toward them armed with a knife in an alley near 18th Avenue and Cheryl Drive, authorities said.
Police responded to a call about 11 a.m. Sept. 6 regarding a man who a family member said was armed with a knife and attempting to harm himself.
Officers contacted the man, later identified as Jonathan Marquez Delgado, 20, in the alley “and observed that he was armed with a knife and appeared to be actively cutting himself,” according to a Phoenix Police Department release.
