Phoenix names new public works director

Felipe Moreno will begin his new role as Phoenix public works director on Monday.

Phoenix City Manager Jeff Barton selected Moreno, the city’s assistant public works director, following a national search, according to a release.

“Felipe’s record speaks for itself,” Barton said. “He’s been an asset for Phoenix in multiple departments and his leadership has been tested and proven time and time again.”

Moreno started with the city in 2000 as a caseworker in the Human Services Department's Head Start Program.

He was selected for the 2006 Management Intern Program, where he completed rotations in the Budget and Research Department, City Manager's Office and Housing Department, the release stated.

He joined the Public Works Department as an administrative assistant in 2007.

Moreno has a bachelor's degree in family and consumer resources from the University of Arizona and a master's degree in social work from Arizona State University.
