Phoenix museum turns up the volume on electronic music

Musical Instrument Museum to spend August weekend celebrating electric instruments

Explore the intersection of musicality and the engineering of electronic music next month in Phoenix.

Celebrate Electronic Music, a weekend of interactive music making and dance, takes place Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 8-9, at the Musical Instrument Museum. The two-day event features performances and curator talks on the historic electric instruments and synthesizers in MIM’s permanent collection, plus an interactive beat-making workshop with a digital sampler.

Look for diverse performances ranging from electronic indie pop to electroacoustic styles and high-energy EDM dance parties. Additionally, the Arizona Science Center will make a cameo on Sunday for a demonstration of how the basic principles of electricity can produce sound, featuring a Van de Graaff generator and a miniature Tesla coil.
