The city of Phoenix has begun to create an entertainment district downtown around the Phoenix Convention Center.
The city’s Economic Development and Equity Subcommittee unanimously approved the official beginning of planning after it was recommended by the director of the city-owned convention center as well as a consultant.
The team also recommended adding a 150,000-square-foot expansion to the convention center’s south building as well as attracting a hotel of 800-1,200 rooms to be built “across the street,” though a site was not mentioned. No action was taken on these recommendations during last week’s meeting.
