The national average for a gallon of gas has been hovering at around $3.82 for the past 10 days, but that’s far from what drivers at the pumps in Phoenix and Mesa are experiencing.
The latest figures from AAA Arizona show prices in the cities, which are calculated together, are at about $4.18 a gallon, up from $3.99 a week ago.
The Arizona average is $4.01, according to AAA, an 11-cent hike from last week.

The national average remains more stable, AAA officials said, adding the lack of movement comes despite an increase in demand and rising oil prices.
“We appear to be at a fork in the road when it comes to which direction gas prices will take – up or down,” said Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson.
“The summer heat that kept people home and suppressed refinery production has eased for now, so we have to look at the cost of oil to determine if the recent price climb is ending. More expensive oil will likely lead to higher prices, so stay tuned.”
