Phoenix man sentenced for drug possession on Indian reservation

A 41-year-old Phoenix man was sentenced to nine years in prison Monday after pleading guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, the U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of Arizona announced Tuesday in a release.

Eric Rope Jr. was involved in two separate incidents on the San Carlos Apache Reservation in early 2025.

According to the release, on Feb. 21, 2015, tribal police responded to an aggravated assault involving a victim who suffered significant injuries. During the investigation, officers recovered methamphetamine from Rope’s residence, and a weapon used in the assault in the bed of Rope’s truck.
