Phoenix looks to mirror Tempe equity pay initiative

Move has provided big boost for business

In a recent Phoenix Women’s Commission Pay Equity Subcommittee meeting, Vice Chair Kyle Webb name-checked the city of Tempe when discussing the potential for pay equity in the city of Phoenix.

“The goal is to mirror what Tempe has done but for Phoenix,” said Mrs. Webb during the virtual meeting on April 1.

The Tempe City Council voted and passed its Equal Pay for Equal Work Initiative in 2017 in order to ensure pay equity based on gender in the city. Councilmember Lauren Kuby was an integral part in the effort, according to the city. Tempe also previously passed an Anti-Discrimination ordinance in 2014, one of the first cities in Arizona to do so.
