Phoenix plans to extend its trade office in the Mexican city of Hermosillo as the city prepares a broader strategy around foreign trade that could involve more offices in Mexico and possibly other countries.
The Phoenix Economic Development and Equity Subcommittee voted unanimously Wednesday, March 23, to approve a request for proposal to contract a company to conduct trade consultation services between Phoenix and businesses based in Hermosillo before the city’s current contract for such services ends Nov. 26.
To assure there isn’t a lapse in service, last Wednesday’s vote also allowed for the city’s agreement with the current contractor, Descubre Phoenix, to extend month-to-month in the event the RFP process hasn’t been completed by current contract’s expiration date.
