Phoenix Library will see minimal impact from Spanish bookseller Lectorum closing

The upcoming closure of the largest Spanish-language book wholesaler in the U.S., Lectorum Publications, will have minimal impact on the Phoenix Public Library, according to a library spokesperson.

It will pale in comparison to the upcoming closure of English-language book wholesaler Baker & Taylor, which has supplied about 80% of the Phoenix Public Library’s new physical books in recent years — a collection of more than a million books.

Phoenix has a collection of almost 40,000 Spanish-language books, according to library spokesperson Lee Franklin. Phoenix only purchased children’s books from Lectorum Publications, but they accounted for fewer than 1,000 of the library’s collection of 10,000 Spanish-language children’s books.
