As part of National Library Week, the Friends of the Phoenix Public Library is hosting a free public screening of the critically-acclaimed documentary film “The Librarians,” which explores the unprecedented wave of book banning and the librarians and community leaders who have been on the front lines of these debates.
The film will be followed by a panel discussion featuring national and local leaders, including Lisa Varga, associate executive director of public policy and advocacy at the American Library Association; Jessica Salow, assistant archivist of Black collections at Arizona State University and president of the Arizona Library Association; Lacy Chafee, at-large member of the Mesa School Board; Taylor Seeley, First Amendment reporter at the Arizona Republic; and Alejandra Bucon, board president of the Friends of the Phoenix Public Library.
