In 1908, industrialist and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie gifted Phoenix a library. Nearly 100 years later, his foundation is giving Phoenix another gift.
Phoenix City Council on Wednesday voted unanimously to accept a $10,000 gift to the Phoenix Public Library from the Carnegie Corporation of New York, given in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence later this year.
“This initiative celebrates the enduring legacy of libraries as vital institutions for democracy and public learning,” a city staff document states.
