All 17 Phoenix Public Library branches are adding electronic signs facing the street outside the building that will cycle updates and messages to passing traffic and pedestrians.
It was beginning to look like 17 locations minus one when the proposed sign outside the Saguaro Branch location, 2808 N. 46th St., was denied a use permit by a city of Phoenix hearing officer. However, that decision was overturned by the Phoenix Board of Adjustment by a 5-1 vote on Dec. 4.
The single no-vote was Board Member Wallace Graham, who argued the glare from the sign would be disruptive to the single-family houses directly across the street and said the library does not need a lighted sign.
