A group of restaurants in downtown Phoenix received permission to keep the party going a little longer.
The Churchill, several restaurants and bars surrounding a shared courtyard at First and Roosevelt streets, was approved by the city of Phoenix last week to continue playing recorded music on Friday and Saturday nights until 1 a.m. rather than stopping at midnight, which was previously required.
Stephen Allen, director of operations of the Churchill, said the businesses that stay open past midnight on the weekend have observed a “pretty substantial decrease in revenue” from patrons leaving once background music is turned off at midnight.
