Phoenix lays out electric vehicle roadmap

City wants 280,000 EVs on the road by 2030

The city of Phoenix wants 280,000 electric vehicles on its road by 2030, and a specialized committee laid out its plans to make that vision a reality Tuesday.

Phoenix’s Ad Hoc Committee on Electric Vehicles established last summer presented its recommendations to city council Tuesday. The committee wants to prioritize the availability of EV charging stations, look to leverage federal grant funding and business partnerships and promote EV adoption to the public as well as survey the public about what would persuade them to drive an EV.

The committee will now seek public input during April and May before bringing its draft plan back — with any changes based on city council or public feedback — for a council vote in June.
