Phoenix indicates possible future legal action against Trump administration

City council hires law firm for $500k

Members of Phoenix City Council called recent immigration enforcement efforts in Minnesota and other parts of the country “federal overreach” and are preparing to fight back should it happen in Phoenix.

In a 7-1 vote on Wednesday, council authorized spending $500,000 to hire a legal team to potentially take action against the federal government.

“Here in Phoenix, our city council is committed to doing what we can to protect our residents in the event that the federal government does here what they did in Minnesota: massive civil rights violations, violence against innocent people and zero respect for rule of law,” said Mayor Kate Gallego. “An essential part of our efforts to protect our residents is to make sure we have the right team on our side if we take legal action against the federal government.”
