Phoenix increases sales tax

City’s share of sales tax will go from 2.3% to 2.8%, effective July 1

The city of Phoenix is raising its sales tax by half a percent to offset other tax revenue taken away by actions from the state legislature.

The city’s share of sales tax will increase from 2.3% to 2.8%, taking effect on July 1. The city does not collect sales taxes on groceries.

Council approved the increase with an 8-1 vote on Tuesday. Councilmember Jim Waring was the lone no vote.
