Phoenix honors two firefighters who died from occupational cancer

City held 32nd annual ceremony to remember employees who died in service

City of Phoenix officials gathered last week to honor two firefighters who died in recent years from occupational cancer.

The city held its 32nd annual Employee Memorial Ceremony on Thursday, Feb. 19, at the Orpheum Theater at Third Avenue and Adams Street. The annual ceremony honors all city employees who died during their service to the city and adds their names to the Memorial Wall outside City Hall, 200 W. Washington St.

This year, Phoenix Fire Engineer Frank Contreras and Captain Anthony Mock had their names etched on glass bricks to become the 102nd and 103rd names on the wall.
