Phoenix group crafts plans to boost women’s pay

City subcommittee sets $59K budget for efforts

The Phoenix Women’s Commission Pay Equity Subcommittee plans to ask the city for a starting budget of at least $59,000 for efforts to educate workers and businesses about pay equity and connect people to resources for women in the workforce.

The subcommittee’s draft budget includes $20,000 for advertising/outreach to individuals, $10,000 for business outreach, $15,000 annually for monthly in-person workshops, $2,000 for public relations and $12,000 to design a website for the subcommittee and develop training. The draft budget also factors in an expense for annual maintenance but has not budgeted a cost for that yet.

In its meeting last month, subcommittee members said they would start business outreach with some of the city’s biggest employers.
