Phoenix gives 12 weeks paid parental leave to city employees

Phoenix City Council voted unanimously last week to give 12 weeks paid parental leave to city employees.

“May this lead to healthier, happy babies,” Mayor Kate Gallego said during the Friday, July 1, council meeting.

Beginning Saturday, Oct. 1, city employees will receive 480 hours of paid leave, the equivalent of 12 weeks of full-time work, that can be taken any time during a 12-month period starting with the birth, adoption or foster care placement of a new child. The leave does not have to be taken in one stretch but must be taken in full-day increments.
