Phoenix funds new AC system at shelter for domestic violence survivors

The city of Phoenix is paying $150,000 to replace the air conditioning system at a homeless shelter for single women who are survivors of domestic violence.

The funding, allocated by a 9-0 vote during Wednesday’s council meeting, will pay for the outdated chiller system at UMOM’s Halle Women’s Center to be replaced by individual air conditioning units in each room.

The shelter serves single women without children, including — but not limited to — survivors of domestic violence, UMOM’s website states. UMOM’s New Day Centers can accommodate families in need of emergency housing.
