Phoenix fire, police officials say new drones protect lives, save taxpayer money

Phoenix fire and police officials say the city’s new drone program is helping to keep first responders and the public safe as well as saving taxpayer money.

“When it comes to lives being saved, I think that is the ultimate benefit from a program like this,” said Councilmember Yassamin Ansari at last month’s Public Safety and Justice Subcommittee meeting.

The Phoenix Fire Department became the first city department to launch their unmanned aircraft system program on June 12. The Police Department joined on Nov. 7, and the Parks Department plans to launch their program soon.
