As the flames rose on Mummy Mountain, residents in Paradise Valley wondered if it was a home or brush fire, but either way, with memories of the devastating fires in Southern California earlier this year still fresh in people’s minds, there were real concerns that the flames could spread.
“We were definitely fortunate because there were no high winds that day,” said Phoenix Fire Capt. D.J. Lee. “If there were high winds, that could have definitely altered the fire itself. The winds could pick up embers and carry them two blocks over and land on a different area and start catching that on fire, but luckily it wasn’t a windy day, and the crews were able to contain it to just that one house.”
