Phoenix Fire: Don’t hike when it’s hot outside

Heat-related mountain rescues are stacking up and Phoenix Fire officials want the public to avoid trails altogether during triple-digit temperatures.

There have been a couple of mountain rescues per week “at the minimum” since May, said Phoenix Fire Capt. Todd Keller.

Three hikers were airlifted from Camelback Mountain on June 9 after emergency personnel got multiple calls saying hikers were in distress. One other person had to get help from crews to get down the mountain safely, according to Phoenix Fire Department officials.
