The crash occurred about 8:30 a.m. Nov. 4 near 83rd Avenue and Palm Lane where police found a vehicle that had crashed into a tree.

Paul Lopez died at the scene, and the infant, who was in a car seat, was taken to a hospital as a precaution, according to a release.

Preliminary information indicates Lopez was traveling southbound on 83rd Avenue “when, for unknown reasons, his vehicle veered into the raised median and struck a tree,” the release stated.

Authorities are reconstructing the accident to determine what led up to the crash and said the relationship between Lopez and the infant remains part of the ongoing investigation.
