When Monique and Andy McKenna months ago booked their tickets for Montego Bay in Jamaica, visions of relaxing in paradise danced in their heads.
Still in the waning portion of their honeymoon phase, the trip to the Caribbean would be a time for them to chill, have some cocktails, breathe in the climate comfort the island offers, and enjoy their birthdays, only four days apart.
But then news of a category five hurricane — the highest and most dangerous category — began to brew in the Carribean as the adventure-minded McKennas took to flight from Sky Harbor International Airport headed in that direction. As the plane descended upon Jamaica Oct. 26, a day before her birthday, Monique said to herself, “Well, here we go.”
