Phoenix council to examine eliminating reverse lanes in downtown

The Phoenix City Council is expected to have a discussion May 21 regarding whether to eliminate reverse lanes in downtown after a resident collected about 4,000 signatures from residents and business owners in support of changing those traffic laws.

Phoenix resident Stacey Champion handed over the petition May 7 to city officials that said the current traffic setup along Seventh Street and Seventh Avenue is “outdated” and “dangerous.” The current setup allows the central turn lane to be used for northbound and southbound traffic during rush hours.

Those Monday-through-Friday schedules allow for southbound use 6-9 a.m. and northbound use 4-6 p.m. to help alleviate traffic.
