The Phoenix City Council on Tuesday approved $500 million in bonds, and the proposal is headed to the November 2023 ballot for voter consideration.
After three months of committee deliberation and public comments, the GO Bond Executive Committee recommended several projects and programs for council consideration.
Allocations approved Tuesday are:
Arts and Culture - $50,385,000.
Economic Development and Education - $38 million.
Environment and Sustainability - $26 million.
Housing, Human Services and Homelessness - $63 million.
Neighborhoods and City Services - $44,615,000.
Parks and Recreation - $64 million.
Public Safety - $132,500,000.
Streets and Storm Drainage - $81,500,000.
“This was a complex project, and our committee members – who already lead busy lives – generously gave of their time and expertise to prioritize and craft these proposals that came to the council today,” Mayor Kate Gallego said.
“I am deeply grateful for their commitment to making the city of Phoenix a better place."
GO Bond Executive Committee was led by Sharon Harper.
“After months of meetings with my fellow committee members and passionate residents, I'm grateful that Phoenix City Council approved the proposed 2023 GO Bond Program,” she said.
“By giving residents a voice in the conversation, we've created a pathway to this bond program's ultimate success. If passed by voters, this GO Bond is sure to make a positive and lasting impact to our city."
City staff will begin the next steps to prepare election materials for council approval, according to a city release.
