Phoenix council objects to selling seized guns

Members question state law requiring sales at auction

Several Phoenix City Council members frustrated with a state law requiring the city to sell about 1,400 firearms confiscated by police back to the public, as required by state law.

“The city should not be in the business of selling guns into our community,” Council Member Betty Guardado said during Wednesday’s council meeting.

The council narrowly passed the item 5-4, with Guardado, Yassamin Ansari, Carlos Garcia and Laura Pastor voting against it.
