Phoenix council amends sign mandate

A lawsuit filed against the city of Phoenix for alleged censorship on private property leading up to Super Bowl festivities took another turn this week.

On Wednesday, Phoenix city councilors approved a measure that tweaked language involving temporary signage in the downtown area after a lawsuit was filed against the city on Jan. 9.

The lawsuit, filed by the Goldwater Institute, says the NFL and the city doesn’t have the right to censor signs on private property during a time period that leads up to the Super Bowl.
