Phoenix could put water restrictions on new development by fall

The city of Phoenix is working to ensure its continued growth doesn’t stretch its limited water supply too thin.

City officials are trying out water regulations for new developments that could become a part of city code by the fall.

The city will pilot water efficiency regulations via stipulations added to rezonings for new development. After seeing how those work and meeting with development stakeholders, city planning staff will take the best practices from those stipulations to write a proposed amendment to city code that council can vote on as early as June, or otherwise after the July recess.
