Phoenix cops to get extra pay raise, tougher accountability

Police, fire, civilian employees all receive a bump

Many members of the public calling into Phoenix City Council meetings for the past year have been urging city leaders to reduce the Phoenix Police Department’s budget and mandate more transparency from the department.

City Council adhered to one request but did the opposite of the other, giving police — and other city employees, including firefighters — an extra pay raise for agreeing to new transparency and accountability rules.
