As vaccines continue to dominate the conversation surrounding COVID-19, the city of Phoenix isn’t slowing its commitment to testing, especially in hard-hit parts of the city.
While the herculean vaccination effort is underway across the city and state, Phoenix has expanded its coronavirus testing through multiple mobile vans and blitzes in response to climbing cases in certain parts of town as well as putting in a static testing site at the Maryvale Community Center and Park.
“I think it’s important that we maintain our testing efforts and we don’t put our guard down,” said Art Fairbanks, assistant director of the Phoenix Public Works department. “It is possible that there could be a rise in the number of cases, as well as the expected decline, and we don’t want to stop and start. We want to make sure that we always have access to those testing resources, even as we’re encouraging people to get immunized.”
