Phoenix commits to clean air with new declaration

The Phoenix City Council approved a request for the city to join the C40 Clean Air Cities Declaration and take on its worsening air quality during its May 5 meeting.

Phoenix previously joined the C40 Network of Cities in 2020, teaming with 97 global cities to address issues related to climate change and air quality. Approximately 37 of those cities have signed the clean air declaration.

The declaration affirms the city’s commitment to clean air by focusing on three key items: improving data and communications in and between cities, identifying and delivering high-impact actions that address pollution sources, and improved collaboration between cities and government agencies as well as non-government organizations. It also gives Phoenix access to new resources, recognition as a global leader on the issue and more engagement with local stakeholders.
