The late Phoenix civil rights leader Gene C. Blue was honored in Phoenix City Council Chambers this week as well as the halls of Congress.
Blue died on Sunday, April 19 at age 86. The next day Rep. Greg Stanton, a former Phoenix mayor, put Blue’s picture on an easel in the House Chamber. He called Blue one of Arizona’s “greatest and most impactful leaders” who had a “profound and lasting impact on the state.”
When Phoenix City Council next met on Wednesday, April 22, several council members spoke in remembrance of Blue and a moment of silence was held in the council chambers.
