Phoenix Children’s Hospital is seeking a rezoning with the city of Phoenix to allow for more flexibility in future development of its main campus.
The 43-acre campus, southwest of State Route 51 and Thomas Road, is currently split into 10 different zoning designations. The hospital is looking to create a planned-unit development, which is a custom zoning designation.
“The recanting of all the existing zoning districts that exist on the site — I think that kind of explains it. We have a hodgepodge of existing zoning districts that are on the site today through a lot of different zoning history,” said Taylor Earl, a lawyer representing the hospital during Monday’s Encanto Village Planning Committee meeting.
