Phoenix charities, churches ready for Afghan refugees

While the crisis in Afghanistan continues after the Taliban takeover, groups on the ground in Arizona are working to make whatever difference they can.

Gov. Doug Ducey confi rmed in an Aug. 19 tweet that Arizona will be welcoming Afghan refugees into the state.

“We just received our first group of vetted refugees on Sunday night, and we know there are more on their way,” he tweeted in part. “These individuals have all been fully vetted through intensive background checks by national security agencies.”
