Phoenix celebrating Urban Wildlife Conservation Day

Several organizations and Phoenix residents are spending Saturday cleaning up the Salt River and learning about urban wildlife conservation.

The Oct. 7 event runs from 7 a.m. to noon and participating organizations include the city, U.S. Fish and Wildlife ServiceASURio ReimaginedCorazon Latino and the National Audubon Society.

The day is a celebration of Urban Wildlife Conservation Day, city officials said.

It is taking place at the Rio Salado Habitat Restoration Area, Northeast 7th Avenue Trailhead
2801 S. 7th Ave. in Phoenix.

Schedule of events (no registration necessary):

  • 7 a.m. – Clean up the Salt River – Volunteers remove trash from river area.
  • 8 a.m.-noon – Community activities
    • Live Animal Presentations – (8:15-8:45 a.m. and 10:15-10:45 a.m.) Educational sessions on our desert neighbors.
    • Walk for the Wild (9-10 a.m.) – Guided walk with bird, plant and cultural experts.
    • Storytelling (9:15-9:45 a.m.) – Entertainment through stories about nature.
    • Pollinator Planting (11-11:30 a.m.) – Plant with Keep Phoenix Beautiful.

Entertainment and refreshments will be provided by storytellers, artists, musicians and local food vendors.
